I had some scrap sound deadening material from a kitchen floor installation. In the demo for the hard floor tiles, a water glass is dropped and does not break. I figured it would be good under the Unimat bed to cut down vibration. The wood spacer fits between the two power feed pedestals measures 3 3/4 X 9 3/4 X 5/8. It was sanded and planed down until the sound deadening mat was a pretty tight squeeze. The difference was noticeable as soon as I started the lathe. Cutting is smoother. There is a plus to the wood spacer... It saves from having to fish chips out from under the bed. An alternative would be the white, closed cell foam used for packing. Also in the photo is one of two 1/8" cold rolled plates (one front, one rear) for a magnetic base dial indicator and a wood block with a magnet imbedded for commonly use tools.
